You will be a great fit if you have experience similar to:

Crop Management:

  • Execute field grown research and breeding programs to the expectations of the operations, breeding and research staff
  • Support the Development of crop specific fertilizer and irrigation protocols in consultation with the Operations Manager that maximize the potential of the breeding programs
  • Develop a program to monitor crop nutrition through soil and tissue collection and analysis
  • Work alone and with others to ensure that crop protocols and crop management procedures are followed
  • Develop pest management program in consultation with Operations Manager and apply labeled pesticides to control weeds, insect pests and diseases.
  • Measure and monitor key performance metrics related to both the quality and productivity of crop programs.
  • Support routine irrigation, farm and field equipment maintenance and repair activities.
  • Support the land preparation process each season and maintain follow fields
  • Create a safe working environment on the farms – by encouraging workers to wear the appropriate PPE, use proper lifting technique, and follow direction on posted signs etc.
  • Supervise the scouting of fields for insect and disease pest.
  • Assist in the Development and maintenance of a program/strategy to protect crop from wildlife.
  • Assist in the Development and maintenance of a program for all farm machinery and equipment
  • Participate in the Development of a crop rotation schedule for the farm.

Planning and Strategy:

  • Conduct weekly crop walks with Station Stakeholders to review crop progress and develop plans to address any variances or opportunities.
  • Conduct periodic crop reviews with members of the operations, breeding and research teams to assess success of programs.
  • Forecast weekly labor needs and work with others to achieve desired outcomes in an efficient and productive manner.
  • Assist Operations Manager in the design, specification, bidding and construction of farm improvements and equipment.
  • Assist in the seasonal development of farm layout and planting plans to guarantee crop cycles and timelines are followed.

Station and Organizational Development and Improvement:

  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement and growth for the company.
  • Participate in safety meetings provided by the HR and Operations team.
  • Participate in weekly staff meetings to share progress and discuss opportunities for improvement.
  • Work with others to provide training and development opportunities for all staff members.
  • Participate in periodic seminars and educational opportunities to ensure that protocols and crop recipes are up to date.
  • Support the development and maintenance of accurate records of all farming activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Operations Manager.

Oversee the supervision and administrative activities for up to 20 contract laborers as needed


Job requirements

To be considered, you will need:

  • Bachelor’s degree with at least one year’s field/greenhouse operations experience in a research or production setting.
  • Associate of Science’s degree in Agriculture or related field with 3-5 years’ experience
  • Knowledge of routine open field growing practices and irrigation requirements.
  • Must be able to work as a team member and independently as this position will require some weekend work
  • Florida pesticide application license or the ability to get one within 1 year of being employed
  • Excellent time management skills and the ability to prioritize own work and work of others in the team
  • Strong communication, training and supervisory skills.
  • Demonstrated computer skills in Word, Excel, Email programs
  • Valid Driver’s License required
  • English fluency required, Spanish is desired

The position requires working in hot day temperatures with lots of walking.

While performing the duties of this job the employee may be driving cars, trucks, tractors, forklifts, or other equipment. This position will be exposed to adverse weather conditions. The employee may need to walk on uneven ground, work near equipment or machinery, and may be exposed to vibration or constant movement. The noise level could be moderate to high depending on the work activities taking place at the station. This position has the potential exposure to chemicals such as pesticides.
