Position Summary:
The summer seasonal research aide position will work closely with breeding and operations staff to carry out the activities of the Sun Prairie research station. Individuals will work as part of a team of staff members under the direct supervision of breeding or operations staff. This position will be over 75% outdoor activities and will carry out critical tasks of the site. Key tasks will include sweet corn pollinations and harvest, crop transplanting, plot maintenance – including staking, stand counts, and weeding as needed. Staff will be expected to work occasional overtime and Saturdays with advance notice.
Essentials duties and responsibilities:

•The position requires attention to detail while maintaining nurseries and trials managed by
station personnel.
•Plot maintenance activities including: thinning, weeding, plant training, tagging
•Sweet corn pollination
•Greenhouse maintenance tasks –cleanup
•Data Entry of field trial results
•Transplanting and inoculations of cucurbit trials
•Operation of research equipment including but not limited to: bean grader, corn cutter
•Dry seed collection, separation, sorting, counting, treating, and packaging
•Valid driver's license required.

Job requirements

Required knowledge & Skills
•Able to meet the physical demands of the position working in extreme weather conditions, and must be able to lift up to 25 lbs


Education & work experience required:
•Previous experience in corn pollination desirable

While performing the duties of this job, this position will be exposed to adverse weather conditions. The employee may need to walk on uneven ground, work near equipment or machinery. The noise level that is typical of this work environment is moderate.
